Influenza activity in Maryland increased slightly during week 18, most of it associated with our investigations into suspected cases of novel H1N1 ("Swine") Influenza. As well as detecting cases of the novel H1N1 virus, DHMH laboratories also identified infections with seasonal influenza. Influenza activity in Maryland decreased slightly during week 19. The southern influenza surveillance region was the only region to report an increased proportion of visits due to ILI and lab-confirmed cases.
