Introduction

The Eastern Shore Hospital Center (ESHC) is a smoke-free mental health facility under the jurisdiction of Maryland’s Mental Hygiene Administration, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. ESHC houses 3 psychiatric units for a total of 60 beds. ESHC's mission is to provide the highest quality inpatient mental health services on the Eastern Shore for adults age 18 and older. ESHC is accredited by Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

ESHC also houses a 16-bed Stepping Stone at Manokin Assisted Living Program that provides care to residents who are preparing to live more independently in the community. The ALP offers residents a place to live, psychiatric treatment, discharge planning, meals, and assistance with daily living activities. Stepping Stone is licensed by the Office of Health Care Quality, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The Eastern Shore Hospital Center and The Hyatt Regency of the Chesapeake Bay is celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month by sponsoring The Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness 10K Race/3K Family Walk on Saturday, May 12, 2012. This event will directly benefit patients of ESHC. It is being held on the beautiful River Marsh Golf Course track with registration at 7:00 A.M. and the race starting at 8:00 A.M. Entry fee is $30.00 for advance registration and $35.00 on Race Day. Entry fee includes race tee shirt, refreshments, awards and delicious post-event breakfast. The Hyatt Regency is offering discounted rooms for the event and the top male and female runners will receive an overnight stay at the hotel.

You can get involved by registering for the race or family walk, becoming a volunteer, or supporting the event as a sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the course, tee shirts, and the event itself. All proceeds will be donated to the ESHC Auxiliary, a totally volunteer 501©3 organization, whose sole purpose is to benefit the residents of the hospital.
